1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 Liter Roadster

This Jaguar; chassis 880090 completed assembly on September 4, 1963, finished in black paint and trimmed with a red leather interior, a color scheme it continues to wear today. On Sept 8th 1963 chassis 880090 was sent to Jaguar Cars New York, and purchased by its first owner Albert Adelman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Jaguar remained in Mr. Adelman’s possession until 1985, when it was purchased by Brent Query of Rochelle, Illinois, who began a full restoration of 880090. When Mr. Query sold the roadster 20 years later, the restoration was still incomplete, and the new buyer Frank Cassata of Machesney Park made significant strides in finishing the work on the XK-E. Enlisting the assistance of Don Ellefson’s Exclusive Auto Restoration in Rockton, Illinois, Mr. Cassata set about a five-year restoration that included a correct new Red interior and Black paint, as well as significant attention to the brakes, suspension, exhaust, and electrical system.

In 2012, the E-Type was purchased by Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, California, and the company’s skilled technicians put the finishing touches on the restoration, including a rebuild of the original Jaguar engine and gearbox. By 2014, the faithfully restored E-Type was sold to Richard Griot, founder of the well-known Griot’s Garage car-care products. The roadster remained in his personal collection until mid-2015, when it was purchased by a marque enthusiast in Florida who presented the car at the 2015 Winter Park Concours d’Elegance.

In March 2016, the E-Type scored 989.7 points (out of 1,000) at the JCNA Concours in Celebration, Florida, and in November 2016 it tallied 995.4 points at the club event at Fort Myers.

Accompanied by a jack, tools, manuals, and documented with restoration invoices and previous titles, this remarkable E-Type would make a stellar addition to any collection.
